Belly Dance Veil Masterclass Technique and Artistry Course with Autumn Ward - 2 classes, open level
The "Veil Masterclass" with master instructor Autumn Ward treats the dance veil
as both a technical instrument and a theatrical partner. This comprehensive
open-level course blends fabric selection, contemporary vocabulary, a musical
technique flow, and the history of the prop into one immersive learning
experience, designed for dancers who want to move beyond pretty twirls into
authentic veil artistry.
The Philosophy of the Program
Contemporary veil work - drawing shapes in the air with silk - requires clean arm
technique, spatial awareness, and a deep understanding of your fabric. Autumn
shares her signature vocabulary while giving you a rich overview of the movements in contemporary use in cabaret and theatrical belly dance. You will learn not just how to move the veil, but why you choose it, how you size it, and how to make it an extension
of your artistic voice.
What You Will Master:
* Fabric Selection: Silk habotai vs. synthetic fabrics, and which is
right for your goals and budget.
* Sizing for Your Body and Venue: Formulas for length (12–30 inches
beyond extended hands), width (shoulder to back of knees), and how to
choose for restaurant gigs vs. stage performances.
* Contemporary Vocabulary: Shoulder warm-ups, how to hold the veil, and
Autumn's favorite movements in contemporary use.
* Musical Technique Flow: Try the movements in real time with music.
* History & Philosophy: The cultural history of the prop, how dancers
incorporate it, and Autumn's personal approach to working with silk.
What's Included:
* Part 1: Fabric selection, warm-ups, technique breakdown.
* Part 2: Musical technique flow for real-time practice.
