The River Intermediate/Advanced Veil Belly Dance Course with Autumn Ward 7 classes
Welcome to River, a 7-class Studio Intensive for intermediate and advanced dancers. This is a theatrical fantasy choreography that uses the veil to create a deeply immersive, fluid experience. The music is almost entirely instrumental, beginning with a short, evocative lyrical passage that sets the tone for the journey.
✨ HOW THIS COURSE WORKS: Designed as general continuing education, this program fills the same role as a regular weekly class. It is not just a rigid "memorize this routine" workshop; it is a space to stay in good form, drill your existing vocabulary, and gain new transitional flows.
The Format: Each lesson begins with a follow-along Technique Flow. This stands on its own as a complete practice. If you continue to the second half, we add a new Choreography Sequence to the material from the previous lesson.
The Build: We revisit previous material, allowing you to measure your progress and enjoy the feeling of mastery as the dance grows.
The Veil: We don't actually pick up the veil until Lesson 3! Lessons 1 and 2 focus entirely on bodywork. (If you need a veil refresher, check out my quick Intro to Veil in the Workshops section).
🎯 WHAT YOU WILL MASTER:
Watery Qualities: Learn to physically embody the distinct movements of snaking, sheeting, and tumbling water.
Elite Body Lines: For fluent dancers, this is the perfect opportunity to refine your arm carriage, presentation, and upper-body grace.
Seamless Transitions: Discover new ways to sequence moves and flow through combinations you haven't tried before.
PREREQUISITES & GEAR:
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced. You need a good basic grasp of belly dance isolations, footwork, turns, and basic veil technique.
Pacing: The combinations have low repetition and are worked at a moderate tempo. The basic framework will be within your capabilities if you have seen the moves before.
The Veil: You will need a veil for the second half of the course. I will be working with a standard 3-yard silk veil. You are welcome to use whatever you have, but the timing and air design of this choreography specifically reflect the qualities of silk. If you are using a heavier fabric and struggling with drag or suspension, consider switching to silk for the fast moves! Dive into the current, find your flow, and let the river take you.
